From time to time, releng needs the ability to re-image mac minis in the srv vlan. In order to do this, we must change the vlan tag on the hosts switch port from srv.releng.mdc1 to test.releng.mcd1 and then netboot the host. In this case, since the host is only on the test network temporarily it does not need a static IP/A/PTR record, just an working IP. Once the mac mini(s) has been reimaged, it can be put back on the srv vlan where it will finish puppetizing.

:rtucker, would you please setup a small (~10) dynamic dhcp range on the test.releng.mdc1 network.

Thanks!
Should this have the default lease duration, or one tuned lower for the use case?

Does infoblox enforce that these address can not then be added as static IPs/leases? When we did this with inventory we wound up shooting ourselves in the foot repeatedly because someone would then choose an IP in the dynamic range to assign to a host. I don't want to run into the same issue here, but infoblox may enforce more internal consistency than inventory.

There is no additiona enforcement. You can assign a fixedaddress inside of a dynamic range. Infoblox and Inventory are both backed by ISC DHCPD
