Steps to reproduce:

System:

- MacBook Pro, MacOS Sierra 10.12.5, 16 GB, Intel Core i7
- Firefox 53.0.3 stable, but also tested with Beta and Aurora channels

Steps:

1. Go to Dropbox.com or any website accepting uploads (also tested with Facebook & Twitter upload dialogs)
2. Open dialog for selecting a file for upload, using the icon view, see screenshot (this does not happen with the list view)
3. Try selecting one file using the Arrow keys


Actual results:

Firefox crashes, every time.

I see that it uploaded a crash report here: https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/2471ec45-6617-4318-b397-036f70170606

Notes:

- this is not a problem with my current system, I have 2 other Macbooks and these crashes are deterministic
- this is not a problem related to a specific version, it's been months since I noticed this behavior


Expected results:

Should not crash.

Forgot to mention: I also tried disabling plugins and safe mode. Result was the same.

confirmed.
it happens on 53.0.3, and doesn't happen on 45.7.0.
now bisecting...

unfortunately it's a bit hard to figure out the regression range, since most affected versions of Nightly doesn't run on Sierra (10.12.5) here :/

on release channel, 52.0.1 works but 53.0 crashes.
on nightly, 51.0a1 (23c2ec5544b9e0a74a047b87b594e4c36a8fe95c) crashes, but most older versions don't run...

anyway, there may be some preference that was enabled only on nightly?

52.1.2esr also works.

and on mozilla-aurora, regression range is https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla-aurora/pushloghtml?fromchange=24a81d93e07cc96300f8e1f5c69034dd4743bd63&tochange=dca7b42e6c67219398e6419293c075ef829adb29 (that is, aurora merge for 53)

so, it should be some previously NIGHTLY_ONLY feature that was enabled on 53.

doesn't happen on 10.11.6
might be something specific to 10.12.x

Thank you for your report! Particularly the fact that the icon view must be selected was very helpful information!
