RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1239708

People

(Reporter: gbillios+mozilla, Unassigned)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:55.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/55.0
Build ID: 20170613054006

Steps to reproduce:

upgraded to 55beta yesterday
started typing the URL nba.sport24.gr
it appeared in the suggested list and I hit enter

Actual results:

I was navigated instead to www.nba.sport24.gr

Expected results:

to be navigated to nba.sport24.gr
Component: Untriaged → Location Bar
Probably you typed the www version and now history thinks it's a valid address. Try searching history for www.nba.sport24.gr (either in the history sidebar or in Show all History) and remove all the entries for it.

Alternatively, typing nba.sport24.gr and visiting it a couple times should also solve the problem.
@Marco : nope, the only entry in my history with the www. in front is a new one created when firefox 55 decided to add the www prefix in front of the URL, all the other history entries are without the www. in front .

but even if that was the case and I had an entry in the past with the www in front, when I typed nba.sport24.gr, the drop down list and the URL were displaying nba.sport24.gr - not www.nba.sport24.gr, so by hitting enter it shouldn't go to www.nba.sport24.gr
in the meanwhile, we made the action row actually show the final host, including an eventual www, and we tweaked the algorithm so that it will prefer the most usually typed prefix (included none).
For now I don't think we plan to do more for this, we have bug 1239708 for remaining improvements.
