Steps to reproduce:

I'm using TB and Lightning for years. After one of the last updates, I was not able to view the calendar any more. I tried a lot like deactivating and activating the plugin and even deinstall and install. I also deinstalled the Google Calendar extension and re-created the calendars via apidata.googleusercontent.com/caldav/v2 ...

From time to time after a lot of tying I get the calendar working. But always after the next start of TB it will be away again.

Actual results:

The Lightning plugin is installed and activated.
I have the menu entries of lightning with new appointment / new task and so on.
In the view menu the calendar is also available.
In the top right there are also the icons to switch to calendar or tasks.

But if I click any of the menu entries or icons, nothing happens.

Expected results:

Calendar should be opened.
What version of Thunderbird do you use? What version of Provider for Google Calendar do you use? Do you get any error messages reported in Tools - Developer Tools - Error Console during Thunderbird startup or when clicking any of the menu entries or icons?
Flags: needinfo?(kruse)
TB 52.2.0, Provider for Google Calendar is deinstalled already.

In the error console I found the following:

Strange error. The line that throws the error was last modified in 2012 according to https://hg.mozilla.org/releases/comm-esr52/file/tip/calendar/base/content/calendar-task-tree.xml#l948

Do you remember what version of Thunderbird or Lightning were working for you?

Do you use any additional extensions? Could you retest with all exceptions except Lightning disabled?

The error mentions the calendar-task-tree widget that is used in today pane and task view. Maybe you could play around with them, open, close, change filter settings etc. to see if this improves anything?

Unsure since when calendar started to fail. Might be about 3 weeks since first error. After disabling some addons and reinstalling lightning I always got the calendar back and thought problem was solves. Because I start TB on monday and close on friday I never realized that the problem is still there...since next monday.

I deactivated all addons. Did not help.

I deleted some older files from TB folders. Did not help.

I restarted several times. And one time the calendar was available. Closed TB and started again - calendar again not visible.

Quite strange.

Some more errors which might help:

Hi. Is there any chance to get lightning back working? Any ideas what to try?
Looks like nobody has an idea.

For the records: I removed to code which caused the error. Don't know for what the binding is required, but at least TB shows the calendar again.

                  // get TB running with calendar
                  // if (aCalendar.id in this.binding.mPendingRefreshJobs) {
                  //    this.binding.mPendingRefreshJobs[aCalendar.id].cancel();
                  //}
Looks like the above just helps from time to time.

Now often I get one of the following errors.

I set dom.max_script_run_time to 120. One time success, we'll see next weeks if it works always.

Just to remind: I have 4 calendars and my installation is very old (10 years perhaps), so there might be quite a lot of calendar event and todo data.

For example when a recurring event notification event pops up, I click "details", "just this event" (not complete series), select state "done" and click "save and close" I have to wait for about 10 seconds until the popup closes.
Timeout did not help always, was still quite strange.

But finally I found a solution - at least I think so in the moment.

Calendar failed to load completly when I had two google calendars.

Solution for this is: calendar.network.multirealm=true

Details: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=247486
I just started seeing this same problem. Setting

calendar.network.multirealm=true

isn't helping. The only thing I've done different lately is have a Calendar tab open with the Monthly view but printing Weekly calendars for a business trip. Here are the console logs:

(In reply to Carl Ponder from comment #9)
Thunderbird reports startup problems with extension called fitimages. I'd suggest that you disable this and other extensions and retest.
Ok that's working so far -- disabling everything but Calendar. I'm able to use

Events and Tasks -> Calendar

to bring up the Calendar pane. The

View -> Calendar

entry had been blanked-out until I did this.
I removed the "fimimages" and disabled both the "Folder Account" and the "Message Menu and Unity Launcher integration" apps. I don't recall having installed the last two, maybe this had happened as a side-effect at some point.
Also I didn't record my levels

Thunderbird 5.2.60 (64-bit)
Lightning 5.2
Ubuntu 16.04 (64-bit)
The problem is back again, even though I've disabled all the other extensions.
One thing I notice is that the side-calendar pane had opened itself, even though I never use it, I use the calendar-tab instead.
I closed the side pane and maybe it decided I shouldn't able to see the calendar pane either?

I'm able to bring it up under

Events and Tasks -> Calendar

now. But the

View -> Calendar

entry is still blanked-out.
I'm having the problem again.
I was able to get the Calendar back up by uninstalling "Manually Sort Folders" and then shutting down & restarting Thunderbird 3 or so times.
Is there any fix in the works for this? I want to be able to re-order my folders.
I'm wondering if the root-cause could be a malformed calendar entry from some Windows- or Mac- based tool.

Any update Carl Ponder or kruse?

Works for me since using calendar.network.multirealm=true

Thanks for the update

This is great, but it isn't really a fix. Should this bug be left open until there is an actual fix? That fix could be as simple as turning on that calendar.network.multirealm=true setting by default. You cannot expect average users to do this.

Thanks.

If nothing else, a version change:

" Version:
Lightning 5.4.2"

Nevermind. I just now saw the closed: WORKSFORME. Sorry.
