Details

From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0rc1) Gecko/20020413 BuildID: 2002041303 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Type in any search string into the URL bar and press enter (don't press down arrow yet) 2.Mozilla will report that it cannot find the site (www.search-string.com). 3.Next, press the down arrow, and go to "Search Google for "seach-string" ", press enter. Actual Results: Mozilla will say that it cannot find www.search-string.com Expected Results: Mozilla should search for search-string in google (or whatever search engine you use).
I can't reproduce the steps exactly on 0.9.9 (2002031104) / Win2k, but maybe my build works differently. If I type "passyunk" in the url bar, after a pause Moz displays 'www.passyunk.com could not be found. please check the name and try again.' If I then click the down arrow, Moz displays no search option. If I retype "passyunk" in the url bar, Moz displays my Google search option, which wfm.
WFM Win2k 2002041408 trunk build
I'm experiencing the same issue with 2002041408 on Win98. The only difference is, though, when I type "some test text," and try it, I get the message "The document contains no data," instead of the cannot find message. Clicking on the Search button, instead of pressing the down arrow key, however, does work.
WFM, cannot find anythin wrong with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; de-AT; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020411 but may be, I did not understand the problem clearly. Reporter, is your problem that "under the normal url-pane the search-pane like "Search Netscape search for xyz.ab" only appears 1 time and if you corrected a wrong url (for example make the "y" in my example-URL to another character" the search pane does not appear again? I can confirm that, the Netscape-search will only appear again if you make changes at the end of your URL. That is normal, the pane with the list of suggested similar URLs only appears for chanegs at the last characte of the URL, too. That would not eb a real BUG
In response to #1 and #4: I am not experiencing the same type of bug as you are. For me, when I type "text to search" into url bar, then hit enter, then wait for error message, then hit down arrow, there IS an option to search google, however, when I try to use this option, it does not work. If I change or retype the text, then the option is available and it works. Perhaps this bug only applies to Win98 with builds 04/13 and later?
Just some updates on this bug... currently using 2002080108. First, make sure Internet Keywords are off. The results of the steps to reproduce have changed somewhat... Typing "search-string" into the URL bar NO LONGER tries to find www.search-string.com. Instead, it contacts the keyword server (even with Internet Keywords turned off). This is unrelated to this bug, but only mentioned to clarify the original steps to reproduce. Instead, type "some search text" into the URL bar. Unintentionally press Enter (when you meant to search instead). You then receive the message "The URL is not valid and cannot be loaded." Click in the URL bar again. Press down twice to activate the "Search Google for some search text." Press Enter. Notice that the error shows up again, instead of searching.
With Mozila 1.1 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.1) Gecko/20020826) I have the same Bug here. Internet Keywords is off. If I type in "hello" in der Url bar Mozilla tries to access http://hello/ and not www.hello.com. However, if I go to the Url bar and press the cursor down to "Search google for "hello"" I get again http://hello/.
