It is unclear how the badge on the icon is incremented. For example, the badge on my home screen currently shows (1). But after sending myself two tabs, and correctly getting the notifications for those, the badge is still (1).
If controlling the badge is unclear, then maybe we should not use it. Or at least not until we have written down some rules about what it should show and on what conditions it is changed.
