Both IE and Quicktime has taken advantage of this: 1. you download a small install program (few hundred K) 2. you run it, and it lets you select what components of the browser and plugins you want, with generic "standard version" for generic users. 3. dowloads and installs the things you've selected.

This is what we are planning on doing, see the source under mozilla/xpinstall/wizard. I'm going to close this one as a duplicate of miscellaneous "Install Wizard" bugs (note the changed component). The Windows wizard is working but not delivered, so I'm making this a dup of 16298. There are also bugs 16299 and 16300 on Mac and Unix respectively. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 16298 ***
