If this has been requested before apologies, I couldn't find anything about it in bugzilla or the wiki.

Can we enable support for markdown in wiki.mozilla.org?

My team's done a lot of work to try to do automated pushes from our github repo where we maintain our documentation to wikimo as well as explorations into how to get pandoc to allow us to convert from markdown to mediawiki but haven't had a lot of success.

Is it possible to just enable using markdown instead of mediawiki syntax in wikimo with the above extension?

Mike and I metup this morning :
* There is some high priority work to be done on wiki.mozilla.org over the next month
* Sometime after that Mike's going to work on getting the markdown parser working on the staging instance of wiki.mozilla.org
* At that point we (infosec) will update our content with the markdown version and see how it looks and how it works
* If there aren't any problems then promotion to production is unblocked and can happen at any time

Mike's going to ping me, probably sometime in September, once the staging site has markdown enabled.

I didn't hear back in email so I called Mike and he said he was planning to enable markdown in staging this month (January). He also said he was back in the office on 1/8/2018 and would try putting it in staging on 1/8 or 1/9 and then update here that it's deployed.

Hello Gene,
We are in the process of testing a new updated version of MediaWiki on our staging server - I am afraid that I had lost track of this bug but https://wiki.allizom.org/Special:Version suggests that the MarkdownExtraParser extension is installed.
Could you please verify that it is working for you.

Spike, yes it looks like it's enabled on wiki.allizom.org

It doesn't look like it's working correctly though as it looks like the mediawiki "auto linking anything that looks like a URL" is conflicting with the markdown and tables emit escaped thead and tbody tags before the table

Anyhow, my team gave up on trying to host our stuff on wikimo a year ago and moved to Markdown on GitHub pages ( https://infosec.mozilla.org/ ) so if nobody else is asking for markdown support I guess you can just close this out.

As it is mainly working I will close this bug but note that we can reopen it if the requirement is resurrected in the future.
