Menu "view" with missing icons and bullets in FF52

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
Build ID: 20170614102148

Steps to reproduce:

Activate menu bar in Firefox and select i.e. view menu
or
right-click on a web-page to show context menu

Actual results:

Menu is displayed (although without border) but icons on the menus and bullets on sub-menus are missing.
Some of the icons coming from external sources like addons or bookmarks are still displayed
If Firefox is started from a console multiple lines saying
"Gtk-CRITICAL **: gtk_icon_theme_lookup_icon_for_scale: assertion 'scale >= 1' failed"
are displayed.
Starting Firefox in safe mode does not solve the problem.
Tested version 54 – the problem persists
BTW Thunderbird 52.1.1 shows similar behaviour.

Expected results:

Icons and bullets should be shown as in previous versions i.e. 47.
