User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:56.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/56.0
Build ID: 20170705095941
Steps to reproduce:
Tabs only close when the X button reaches 50% of the width. This makes it hard to close the top tabs on large phones. It often requires multiple attempts.
The idea is to close the tab when the X button travels - lets say - 35% of the way.

As for the case of swiping the tab slowly, can we detect the tab's transparency? I suggest that close the tab when the tab's opacity is 0% (When users can't see the tab then remove the tab).

we can try what Jack suggested above. I think we can also check this while we review all the transitions for improvement in the near future.
