RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 1342556

People

(Reporter: dough, Unassigned, NeedInfo)

Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
Build ID: 20170607123825

Steps to reproduce:

Had perhaps 10 FF windows open with mulitiple tabs in each window.

Actual results:

When I logged in this morning the open (visible) tab in each FF window showed the "tab crashed" message.

Expected results:

The tabs content should have been there rather than the "tab crashed" message.

If you have no steps to reproduce to provide, it'll be hard to find the cause of this crash unluckily.

Do you have a crash report in about:crashes?
Firefox 52.2.0esr Crash Report [@ PLDHashTable::Add | TraversalTracer::onChild ]

I didn't know that "about:crashes" existed. Thanks for the info.

For some reason I'm no longer asked if I want to upload crashes, so that one and many more were in the "not uploaded" section. Apparently opening one in that section automatically uploads it without saying it's doing that, which is fine with me now that I know it happens.
I have been experiencing the same issue since doing a manual yum update on Centos 7. I upgraded (manual download since I can't load any tabs!) to 54.0.1 and have the same issue, but with different errors.

I tried to open a bugzilla report but to say it's not a friendly process is an understatement. It reports on the 54 failures-

Suspects IPCError-browser | shutdownkillall

Looks like libc and libxcb are causing the problem.

I can provide versions of all installed components.

Hi Doug,

Do you remember what websites/windows you had open that could have triggered this crash?
Flags: needinfo?(dough)
Nope. We're talking lots of windows with lots of tabs in each one. I doubt it had anything to do with a particular website, but I could be wrong, since the error showed up in the visible tab in each and every window. Though I suppose it could have been putting a message from a crash of one tab somewhere into the visible tab in every window?

It happened "overnight", i.e. it was there when I logged back in first thing in the morning, but wasn't there when I logged off the day before.

Sorry I didn't copy the message down, but I'm pretty sure there wasn't any info in the message about which website caused the crash. I know the message was identical in every window.
As literally reported, this is expected. If the content process is crashing, your open tabs will reflect the fact that the content process has crashed. Core issue here is that something's causing it to crash, and crashes are bad.

Likely a dupe of topcrash bug 1342556?

This sounds like a different issue. If you can still reproduce, file a new bug.

Hey Erik,

If you are able to reproduce, please file a new bug against the crash:

Thanks!

Closing this as a dupe. Thanks for reporting!
