Recently I tried to catch up on unread messages in the newsgroup news.admin.net-abuse.email , via the Newsguy NNTP news server (news.newsguy.com). I got the dialog reporting more than 3000 unread messages, and selected to download 500 headers and mark rest as unread. The progress bar only made it part way through the 500 messages and then crashed. Repeated attempts always crashed before the process completed. I unsubscribed from the newsgroup, verified that all the Mozilla files and entried were cleaned up, and resubscribed. This time, the dialog showed more than 36000 unread messages. It crashed the same. I also tried downloading all the headers, rather than 500, but it still crashed before completion. I then downloaded and retried the 0.9.8 release build, and was able to catch up the newsgroup just fine. Returning to the current build, I can now read the newsgroup fine. But again, unsubscribing, resubscribing and trying to catch up causes the crashes to return. Build 20020328 also crashes.
Hi, thanks for reporting this. Do you have Talkback-enabled build? Does Talkback come up, and if so, can you give me the Talkback ID # so I can query for a stack-trace.
I tried with the 0.9.9 release talkback build, which was dated something like 20020313 (dredged from my weak memory). It does not crash. It is not clear to me where to get a more current talkback Linux build. I normally just get the .tar.gz full download (the gnu-installer has never worked for me). I do get core dump files, so here is one if interested (5.5MB compressed, 27MB uncompressed). http://www.leewardfpga.com/core.2478.bz2

i'm marking this WORKSFORME based on comment #2 since this is no longer reproducible in 0.9.9.. If you can still reproduce this in a recent nightly, please reopen the bug. The talkback build can be obtained here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly/latest/mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-sea.tar.gz
