Please rename VERIFIED to FIX_VERIFIED. Reason: else VERIFIED means the same as CONFIRMED to anyone who hasn't seen http://bmo.readthedocs.io/en/latest/using/editing.html?highlight=verified#life-cycle-of-a-bug to see it refers to the fix, not the bug. It is good that IN_PROGRESS is not just PROGRESS, so FIX_VERIFIED would be good to make things clear too.
This is already possible to do in Bugzilla. That lifecycle diagram references upstream bugzilla, but not BMO. It is unlikely that this will change on BMO. As this was filed in the Bugzilla product, I'll close as WORKSFORME.

Note I am wishing that all Bugzilla instances the whole world wide would say FIX_VERIFIED in the future, not just a single instance.
I can't control the configuration of other instances. Statuses can be changed on $site/editvalues.cgi?field=bug_status and resolutions can be changed on $site/editvalues.cgi?field=resolution. Further the transitions between those values can also be changed. Changing the default would incur costs in testing and support that we don't have the resources to handle.
How do I report a bug in the "upstream version of bugzilla"? Isn't this the right way to report it? I am saying that I hope that all over the world, when an administrator one day upgrades his version of bugzilla, there on his bugzilla suddenly all the places where it used to say VERIFIED it would now say FIX_VERIFIED, with no need for the administrator to tinker with any files etc. Thank you.
Oops, I see. VERIFIED is special to this instance of bugzilla and not worldwide. OK sorry.
Well, VERIFIED is a default in Bugzilla. They are defined in https://github.com/bugzilla/bugzilla/blob/master/Bugzilla/DB.pm#L39 but what Dylan is saying, we don't have the resources to change the defaults without very good reason as that would mean also to make sure updates from old databases still work as there's lots of code touching statuses over the years. Additionally, we have a way for the admins to customize them how they want and the defaults are only used for new installs. So we can't "force" a status rename on admins.
