From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; WinNT4.0; en-US; rv:0.9.9+) Gecko/20020417 BuildID: 2002041710 Somewhere between 20020415 and current build the rendering of the images has changed. Now images are rendered incorrectly, images are too light and colours are washed out and images sometimes heavily pixelated. Image format (jpg, gif, png) does not matter. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Load a page with images 2. Save image from page to local harddrive 3. View the saved image with some other software 4. compare - images are rendered differently Actual Results: Images are rendered incorrectly Expected Results: Images hould be rendered correctly Attachement included showing the difference between Mozilla rendered and Irfanview rendered images.
This image shows the difference of the rendering. Examples are from National Geographic's site and from Mozilla site, but this behaviour happens with every site.
Remember to view the attaced image with some other program that Mozilla, since it corrupts the image.

Bugzilla banner (mentioned in screenshot) - WFM 2002041711/RC1build/Win2K. Should be related to rendering with 256 color, which has landed in last days?
Adam, I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean one of the bugs filed about using Mozilla with NT in 256 colour mode, for example http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=88560 ? My NT is running 65536 colour mode so those bugs are not the same as this, although it might be that Mozilla is using only 256 colours fom some reason.

Sorry, I'm taking my note about 256 colors back (it was bug 135226).

Reporter, could you attach an image that you see this behavior with?
I attached the screen shot when I made the report. Just look at the attachments list. It has two different examples with Mozilla rendered and image viewer (Irfanview) rendered views of the same image. http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=79782&action=view If you mean to attach some specific image that causes this behaviour then there's no reason for that since this behaviour happens with any image, any format.
I tried the latest build 20020418 but it had same problem. I then installed older build 2002041603 and everyting works ok with it, so something has changed from build 2002041603 to 2002041710 to cause the problem. Looking at what has been checked in between 15.4-17.4.2002 good candidate for causing this problem are the patches for bug 135226.
Summary: Images on pages are rendered incorreclty → Images on pages are rendered incorrectly, wrong color palettes

color difference may also be the result of the gamma correction change that recently went in: bug 53597

Using todays trunk build on WINNT set to 65536 colors I see lots of problems. All of the toolbar images have a light gray rectangle surrounding them instead of being transparent. All of the colors are much lighter than they should be. A trunk build from 4/9/2002 looks fine.

Given the gamma checkin proceeded the time period in comment 8, this probably isn't mine. -> saari

Every time when i download from latest trunk All of the toolbar images have a light gray rectangle surrounding them instead of being transparent. All of the colors are much lighter than they should be. When i download from latest1.0.0 trunk it is ok. I attached 2 Screenshot. I've set the color palette to 65536 colors. When i set the color palette to true color then teh lastest trunk is also ok.

Using 2002042808/trunk/Win2K/TrueColor32bit I see also toolbar with rectangles around navigation buttons in toolbar.

Using 2002043010-trunk, Win NT: 15 and 16 bit color palettes show the bug, 24 and 32 bit palettes don't.
