Steps to reproduce:

Thunderbird Version 52.2.1 / OS: Mac OS X 10.11.6
1. Create an HTML Signature with a certain Font. See example below (1) and apply it to your Account.
2. In Thunderbird Preferences: Composition > HTML > Change Font to: Helvetica, Arial
3. Compose a new Mail
4. Make a single click with the mouse on the Signature
5. Make a click again on the body of your message (just before your signature)

Actual results:

The Font changes to: "Variable Width"


Expected results:

The Font should remain Helvetica. Because the Preferences of Composition and the Signature both have the same Font (Helvetica).
