Further on the topic of rendering Markdown, have you considered if it would be possible to also render HTML documents, for example README.htmls? https://searchfox.org/mozilla-central/source/tools/jprof/README.html The reason I ask for this is because I am in the process of generating API documentation (as HTML documents) for some of the JavaScript code of the Marionette remote protocol, and having it self-hosted in the tree would be such a better solution than having to pull it out of m-c and stand up machinery to publish it elsewhere.

See also https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1417222 Rendering HTML by default would break reviewing use case pretty badly.

With https://github.com/bill-mccloskey/mozsearch/commit/18355d19721f3959e4f42a59960a2bd41fe7c4c4 the "raw" link should render the HTML. I agree with smaug that we probably shouldn't render the HTML document in the default view, so now that we have a one-click distance to the rendered view maybe that's all we want to do here?

Going to close this then as I don't think we want to do the direct rendering in Searchfox.
