Details

From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.0rc1) Gecko/20020417
BuildID: 2002041711

This seems to only happen on my KDE desktop (not Gnome). Mozilla seizes
completely when trying to open the flash animations at the above and other URLs.
Sometimes it even seizes when trying to load the above site. I tried
reinstalling everything (flash, java, mozilla1.0rc1 itself) and still the same
problem. Switching to Gnome--smooth sailing. This was not a problem in 0.9.9.
 Hope this helps.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.URL (www.deviantart.com) was chosen from bookmarks in personal toolbar
2.Sometimes site loads, sometimes the load bar gets halfway and then Mozilla
siezes completely. (need to kill in terminal)
3.Otherwise go to flash--interactive and try any one. Mozilla seizes.

Actual Results: Mozilla stops completely.

Expected Results: Loaded site or flash animation.

KDE only
Not in 0.9.9
I have no problem with KDE 3.0 using Flash
reporter: Do you use an exported X display ?
The hang can occur with the kde sound daemon, but flash is esd aware, and gnome
by default use esd. See workaround for how to use it with the kde daemon in bug
58339 comment 119. (Or use esd as a workaround.)

It's very strange that you don't see this in 0.9.9: The bug is old.
Are you sure you tested 0.9.9 with the identical settings/desktop that hangs
under RC1?
There is another flash bug that shows under 1.0RC1 but not 0.9.9 (but this one
crashed under GNOME) - bug 138786. Reporter, (silly though this sounds) can you
give a direct link to one of the pages that caused a crash?
I believe this bug is incorrectly described in summary:
Summary reads "crashes when using flash", but reporter later writes:
"need to kill in terminal".

So it seems to be a hang, and not a crash.

Reporter: Am i interpreting you correct?
Also: Is /dev/dsb busy when the hang occures?
(Are you playing music with xmms for instance)
Reporter: Launch mozilla by using "artsdsp mozilla"
This will let Mozilla use the aRts sound processor to allow flash to initialize
even if you're currently playing sound.

Michael, are u using an X display?
Yes (I hope this is correct). I am running X11R6.
I apologize with the newbiness of the following comments. As per Will Dorman
(wd@pobox.com) I tried "messing around" with the sound server. I found that by
killing artsd (in top) the flash problems disappeared. Mozilla did not hang. I
still got audio from the site but audio from KDE stopped. This is all a learning
process for me so I hope my comments both make sense and are helpful.
First, This can't be a new bug (can it)?
Second, I uninstalled aRts on my system, and ran KDE with no sound server.
Mozilla loaded and played flash (with sound) perfectly. So I have found that the
workaround is "switch" aRts on and off as required (or use Gnome). Again I hope
I am more helpful than not.

Michael, as I said above, use "artsdsp" to launch mozilla. This will let
Mozilla use the aRts sound server.
Look at the link on comment #3 for detailed instructions.

artsdsp ./mozilla (or the equivalent on my system) works. Pretty neat. I was
also told by another reporter that this hang doesnt't occur under KDE3. This
has been an interesting learning experience.
