Please add an option to create language packs for Thunderbird.
What's your use-case for those? I'm asking because now that we're localizing nightly, language packs are a huge footgun, as they can break your local install from one day to another.

Well, then maybe I sould be asking for 'release' language packs. The thing is, we (eo) started localizing Thunderbird, but there is no easy way to test it. If Pontoon provided that, then it'd be a lot easier. If you can create them for nightly, that's ok. I'd rather tweak them to make them compatible with 'release' than create the language packs from scratch.
Priority: -- → P4
I'd add that the language packs created by pontoon will stop working soon, as we'll require language packs to be signed, and pontoon can't.

For Thunderbird too, or for Firefox only?
I don't know, but if the system doesn't work for Firefox, we'll likely drop it alltogether, and potentially try something else. Right now, AMO doesn't have automation hooked up to what happens on the build side, so how "something else" would concretely look is unclear. Also, the VM we do this on will eventually go away, too.
Due to the difficulties mentioned by Axel and user experience risks, we stopped building language packs for Firefox. We also won't be building them for Thunderbird.
