Kilik and James,
I bet you are interested in this bug. :-)
Flags: needinfo?(kikuo)

Priority: -- → P1
I cannot reproduce this bug on a different machine with Ubuntu 16.05 x64 using the latest Nightly 56.0a1 and the STR from the description.
The difference between the 2 machines is:
Graphics:
- Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS780 (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0) (reproducible)
- Gallium 0.4 on AMD CEDAR (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0) (not reproducible)

Hi roxana,
I don't think this issue is related to the video card.
Since I cannot reproduce from our side and the information is lack for us to know the root cause.
Please help us clarify something.
Would you please go to about:support and paste all the items in
"Important Modified Preferences " for us?
If I manually turn off the pref "media.eme.enabled", I can got the same error. (But I don't think we will accidentally turn off the pref manually)
Thanks.

Please also paste the "not reproducible" machine's "Important Modified Preferences " for us.
If we get luck, we can diff and find some clue.
Thanks.

Build 20170730100307 should have the fix for bug 1384718, which was my first thought when I saw that it seemed to be GPU-dependent, but this could be some other fallout from bug 1308400. Some things to try:
Does this still happen if the security.sandbox.content.level pref is set to 2?
Can you run firefox with MOZ_SANDBOX_LOGGING=1 set in the environment and attach the output?
Also, a question for cpearce: Is there anything in the content process that might be trying to read files in unusual places (e.g., from the GMP directory inside the profile) as part of this test?

I was able to repro this on a CLEAN Ubuntu16.04 VM on Windows.
Regarding step 2/step 3, Linux EME is disabled by default.[1].
So the actual result should be expected.

Regarding step 4/step 5, "no supported video capabilites" is shown.
I will check this further.

Ah so this might be because ubuntu-restricted-extras isn't installed. Roxana, can you try installing the ubuntu-restricted-extras package?

On my environment, the problem can be solved after those packages installed.

The issue is not reproducible with the ubuntu-restricted-extras package installed.

Same error here. It just was working in the morning, then error in the afternoon.
The DRM works fine with other sites, but Amazon video gives an error "there is a problem with DRM". I logged in to Amazon from a completely different Linux system, and the same error is given with the alternate firefox install. All the suggested troubleshooting is done, no results. Just a run-round in a circle chasing error codes with no documentation.
