When you hover over tabs, the tab separator lines to both sides disappear. The open tab button highlights like a tab when you hover it, but it doesn't make the separator between it and the tab to the left go away.

Current behavior is intentional, see http://design.firefox.com/people/shorlander/photon/Mockups/windows-10.html
However, there should be a gap between the separator and the new tab button. I plan on fixing this in bug 1377184.
