Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.0; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
Build ID: 20170802111520
Steps to reproduce:
Casual browsing several news web sites (2 to 5 tabs open), so I would call it fairly lite scenario, mem usage is around 1GB for FF. (Vista 32bit + all updates, Core 2 Duo cpu (sony vaio notebook)) fairly clean OS, Total 360 AntiVir.
Actual results:
Seems like it is driven by some advertisements (flash?) that are planted inside the pages.
Since opening the same pages does not reproduce the problem.
First, when we are about to freeze FF starts to respond very slowly, no swapping, so mem is ok. And then can freeze dead and not respond to any input. In TM we see that FF task is 100% busy and loads one of cpu's cores to the max. This can continue indefinitely (al least 20 minutes tested). During this time FF seems to be doing doing something. mem usage jumps +/- 50 MB for the task.
Expected results:
This has not happened in previous releases (pre 52), this is a recent problems. FF 55 x64 seems to work fine here with same web sites under win10. Suspecting problems in 52esr 32bit branch.
PS: Previously when FF was too busy there was a requester to stop bad long running java script for example, but never a complete freeze.
