Details

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:55.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/55.0
Build ID: 20170809080026

Steps to reproduce:

From any web page: Open menu, select Print.

Actual results:

Orientation automatically defaults to Landscape despite the fact that the printer preferences orientation is set to Portrait.

Expected results:

Should print in Portrait.
Component: Untriaged → Printing
Product: Firefox → Toolkit

When you say "printer preferences" here, can you be explicit about the name of the preference that's "set to Portrait"? Some preferences are stored on a global basis, and others on a per-printer basis, so that can make a difference. Also the print[.printername].orientation prefs are of type 'int', so I'm curious how you found the correct value to indicate "Portrait" since most users would not be trying to figure this out and edit these prefs (I'm assuming you didn't override the value to 'string' and set the value to "Portrait", which definitely wouldn't work).

Same issue. When I ctrl+p, then "Print using the System Dialog"
2 different printers on 2 different machines have "Landscape" selected when "Portrait" is the default.
When I change the orientation and click "Apply", the setting stays to "Portrait" for ONLY THAT DOCUMENT.

The orientation changes back to "Landscape" next time I open a webpage and try to print.

Is this still happening for you alfadog? Does it happen with the system dialog and the Firefox print dialog?

Hello,

I've not seen the issue on my bleeding-edge machine on V101.0.1 , but all of my production machines are switched to 91.1.0 ESR, so they would likely not show the error either.

Thanks!
Alfadog

Okay, I don't see anything actionable here. There's been some churn in this area since the original report 5 years ago and alfadog isn't reproducing on a recent release.

Thanks for the quick reply alfadog!

Sure thing! Thanks for troubleshooting.

This one seems the same:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1745446

Hi ya... My production machines just automatically updated from 91.4ESR to 102ESR.
They are now experiencing the bug that surfaced with FF95.

Here's my setup:
Printer: ZDesigner GC420t (EPL) (A VERY common POS printer driver)
Printer Driver: https://www.zebra.com/us/en/support-downloads/printers/desktop/gc420t.html
OS: Win 10
FF: 102ESR

Orientation for the above printers will not save. Each time I use this printer with Firefox, I have to click "Print using the system dialog" and set it up each time. There are other printers that demonstrate this behavior in FF, but this one specifically should be enough to troubleshoot.

The problem does NOT exist in 91.4ESR
and DOES exist in 95.0. (My first discovery)
and DOES exist in 102ESR.

I see bug 1389767 and 1745446 are marked as a duplicates of each other.
I'm posting to the earlier one.

Thanks,
Alfadog
