Steps to reproduce:

Find as you type is broken, find doesn't start neither after any key (preferences-advanced-find as you type-find automatically when typing... is on) nor after the explicit /

Introduced between builds 20170811005712 and 20170813013143
NOT reproducible with unzipped installer of  official en-US SeaMonkey 2.54a1 (NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0 Build 20170813013143  (Default Classic Theme, German Language Pack active) on German WIN7 64bit

1. With active FAYT double click (highlight/select) string "proposed" behind "Add attachment"
2. Type "u"
   » find string input pane appears when type, search hit highlighted

11. With inactive FAYT (Menu 'Edit → Preferences → Advanced → FAYT) double click 
   (highlight/select) string "proposed" behind "Add attachment"
12. Type "u"
    » Nothing happens as expected
13. Type "/"
    » find string input pane appears when type

Probably bug 1389622. I will look at it when the removal dust has settled and 2.49.1 is out.
