From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; Win 9x 4.90; Q312461) BuildID: 2002041711 (1.0 RC1) http://www.mutefantasies.com/ There are three Java applets that bump-map the navigation menus. When Mozilla tries to start the applets, it goes to 100% CPU unless IE has been there first. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Mozilla. 2. Install Java Plug-in 1.3.1_02, copying NPOJI600.dll manually if necessary. 3. Restart your computer. 4. Start the browser. 5. Type into the URL bar http://www.mutefantasies.com/ and press Enter. Actual Results: Hang, 99% CPU. Expected Results: Mozilla should not hang. It should render the applet. (IE 6 with the same Sun Java Plug-in views the site correctly.) Workaround: Use IE to view the web site, then use Mozilla. For some reason, that works. Apparently, IE properly initializes the plug-in but Mozilla doesn't. Is this a special case of bug 127505 (random freezes on Java applets)?
It is working for me on Windows 2000 / JPI 1.4.0 / Mozilla 1.0 RC1. Reporter: Can you reproduce the problem with Java Plug-In 1.4.0? Mozilla does use 99% cpu but still continues to operate correctly. I think the reason for the 99% CPU is due to the way the applet's animation is implemented; if you don't want 99% CPU utilization you will need to find a more efficient way to animate the applets. I must say, the applets do look really cool.
no response from reporter for more than a month. WFM with 1.0 on win2k - uses a lot of CPU, but no hang. resolving as WFM. reporter: can you reproduce this bug with current version of mozilla and the JRE? if so, please reopen this bug and comment with details. thanks.
