I had no trouble saving images (any format - JPG, GIF, PNG, etc), PowerPoint presentations, file archives (ZIP, .tar.gz, RAR, etc) and other files attached to 50-60 messages from an internal newsgroup. However, the two messages that contained no body text and a single attachment - an MPEG movie - caused Mozilla to spin in a seemingly infinite (well, over 12 minutes, anyway ;) loop. None of the Mozilla windows were available - navigator, mail&news, composer. A look at the directory where the files were being saved showed just that - the files were being saved, Mozilla had frozen after writing about half the file size. For the record, this does not happen with Mozilla-0.9.9 / FreeBSD 4.5-STABLE.

Does the problem still exists with a current build?
Yes, I am able to reproduce it with both 1.0 and 1.1b (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.1b) Gecko/20020721). I guess I should have mentioned that all newsgroups are set for offline browsing.
A few questions: * is it only those two mpg files or all mpg files ? * do you know of anywhere where we can test this (any public newsgroup with such messages) ? *

This seems to have been fixed somewhere along the way. In Mozilla 1.3 (Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.3) Gecko/20030312) I can save messages from newsgroups without any problems. Thanks a lot for a great browser and accompanying software!
