Details
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0
Build ID: 20170809204109
Steps to reproduce:
Open Firefox-ESR with no specific web pages.
All addons are disabled, only one tab is open.
Actual results:
As soon as it starts top shows than Firefox is consuming around 140% CPU. Fan run at full speed. Battery drains.
When I try to exit Firefox (CTRL+W or File>Exit) the window disappear but not the processes. After some time I get the Firefox has crashed window. On that one when asking to restart it simply does not.
I use it on Debian.

Behavior comes back to normal when used in safe-mode. I will investigate that and report here if I find something something.

The trouble came from the "GNOME Shell Integration" addons.
I let the extensions.gnome.org install it 3 days ago. I guess it comes from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/gnome-shell-integration.
De-activing in about:addons was not enough. I needed to remove it completely and then everything went fine again.
