It looks like the shadow bounds computation isn't factoring in text-emphasis.

Not a regression, AFAIK, and fairly minor impact; would be nice to fix for 57, but only if we can come up with a simple and safe patch.

Sounds like the boundary of shadow doesn't take emphasis marks into account.
