We want to ship Firefox with a good list of search engines for Interlingua.

We'll do this in three phases: First, the localization team and flod (Francesco Lodolo) will look at the market for the language and come up with a good set of search providers. Rodrigo and Carmelo, we'll need your input on this. The guidelines for making recommendations are found on <https://wiki.mozilla.org/L10n:Firefox/Productization>.

We currently use this set for en-US, to which we can fall back in the case of lacking localized alternatives:
Google, Yahoo!, Bing, Amazon, DuckDuckGo, Twitter, Wikipedia

After we decided on a particular search engine, flod will contact the owner and ask for permission and for specifics, like proper search flags. Rodrigo and Carmelo, we'll likely need your help to at least get the owner's contact information.

Once we have a specification on what the search engines for Interlingua should look like, flod and the localization team will work on an implementation on that. flod will create and attach patches for the desired changes and get them reviewed. After a successful review, flod will land them. Rodrigo and Carmelo, if you're interested, you could create the patches, too. You'd ask flod for review on those before landing.

Please don't commit any modifications in browser/searchplugins to the hg repository without a patch reviewed by flod, Stas, Axel or someone else appointed by flod. The data here is sensitive to users and our search partners, thus requiring extra care here.

The Interlingua team and flod will be driving this bug to completion.

Since Interlingua doesn't really have a territory, as far as I understand, do you have any suggestion to change the list of searchplugins to ship (besides the localized version of Wikipedia)?

Please also take a look at bug 1400799 and bug 1400800. Once we fix this bug, we can start building Firefox.

Hi, Francesco

Unfortunately we don't the search engines localized to Interlingua. I think the default search engine should be Google.com in English, and we could also the other search engines in English.

Yes, we have Wikipedia in Interlingua, an option for searching it is certainly desirable. There is also a searchable Interlingua English Dictionary http://www.interlingua.com/ied/cerca, and other non-official dictionary search tools such as: http://rudhar.com/cgi-bin/cgi-grep.cgi , and http://encyclo-interlingua.rhcloud.com/

Let's start with the same searchplugins as English, plus Wikipedia in Interlingua.

If you want to add further searchplugins (the dictionary would be a great addition), it's better to spin it off in a different bug. To add such searchplugins, we need a written authorization from the provider, icons, etc.

I can provide more information in a separate bug if you're interested in trying.

It seems it's rather "De Wikipedia, le encyclopedia libere".

Nevermind, was looking at the source code - seems like this is not a necessary change. Thanks

For reference, normally we look at the text under the Wikipedia logo in the sidebar, but I just realized the same text is available as <title> of the page.
