Advanced searching of news groups turns up no matches

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Go to news groups main window
2. Click the Advanced search button
3. enter simple text, subject, contains
4. do search


Actual Results:  No matches ever found

Expected Results:  Some matches, especially when entering a single letter e.g. "a"

Works the same way when advanced search is selected from the menu Tools > Search
Messages...

There is Tools > Search Messages...
AND
there is Tools > Search > Search Messages... both with the same key shortcut.

worksforme on apr26 branch, mac OS 10.1
What newsgroup/server are you trying to search?  It may be that the server
doesn't support search.

WorksForMe using FizzillaCFM/2002041712 (RC1).

I wonder if searches rely on any server functionality. What news server are you
accessing?

Laural,
You are right.  It is related to the news server.  I wasn't aware that searching
headers was tied to functionality in the server.  I assumed that it would be a
browser function since the headers are (apprear to be) loaded into memory.  The
offending server is msnews.microsoft.com (the .mac news group).  I tried it on
our "corporate" server nntp.usace.army.mil and searching headers works.

When trying to search on the Microsoft news group, Mozilla appears to do the
whole routine.  It appears busy for a couple of seconds then says there are zero
matches.  The result for the user is a bit misleading.  Can Mozilla determine
whether or not the server supports searching?  Would it be reasonable for
Mozilla to indicate that it can't do the search?  Thoughts for the the future...

Confirmed using FizzillaCFM/2002041712 (RC1). Revising Summary.

If the news server doesn't support search, or Mozilla doesn't work with its' idea of searching, 
then some sort of feedback needs to inform the user of this.
