Bug 1406011 - Update the document for defaultBrowser in core ping.
Data review request comment:
1. What questions will you answer with this data?
We want to know the number of users that had set Firefox as default browser
2. Why does Mozilla need to answer these questions? Are there benefits for users?
We need this information to know how users use Fennec.
3. What alternative methods did you consider to answer these questions? Why were they not sufficient?
We think "set as default browser" is an important indicator that no other method can replace.
4. Can current instrumentation answer these questions?
No. Although we have a histogram "BROWSER_IS_USER_DEFAULT" for this purpose, it's opt-in.
5. List all proposed measurements and indicate the category of data collection for each measurement, using the Firefox data collection categories on the found on the Mozilla wiki.
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Privacy/Reviews/Telemetry/Default_Browser_Status
6. How long will this data be collected? Choose one of the following:
We want to permanently monitor this data. (Joe Cheng)
5. What populations will you measure?
All Fennec users
6. Which release channels?
All channels
7.Which countries?
All countries
8. Which locales?
All locales
9. Any other filters? Please describe in detail below.
No
10.Please provide a general description of how you will analyze this data.
We'd like to put it in core ping and know the number of users had set Firefox as the default browser.
11.Where do you intend to share the results of your analysis?
We'll use it internally.

> Is there or will there be documentation that describes the schema for the ultimate data set available publicly, complete and accurate? (see here, here, and here for examples). Refer to the appendix for "documentation" if more detail about documentation standards is needed.
Yes, in the documentation patch in this bug
> Is there a control mechanism that allows the user to turn the data collection on and off? (Note, for data collection not needed for security purposes, Mozilla provides such a control mechanism) Provide details as to the control mechanism available.
Yes, part of core ping, so part of Firefox for Android telemetry settings
> If the request is for permanent data collection, is there someone who will monitor the data over time?**
Joe Cheng
> Using the category system of data types on the Mozilla wiki, what collection type of data do the requested measurements fall under? **
Type 2, boolean of whether is default browser
> Is the data collection request for default-on or default-off?
default on
> Does the instrumentation include the addition of any new identifiers (whether anonymous or otherwise; e.g., username, random IDs, etc. See the appendix for more details)?
No
> Is the data collection covered by the existing Firefox privacy notice?
Yes, part of coreping
> Does there need to be a check-in in the future to determine whether to renew the data? (Yes/No) (If yes, set a todo reminder or file a bug if appropriate)**
No
