Problem resolved by upgrading operating system to MacOS High Sierra, 10.13.1. For the record, Apple said, when I asked, to check with the mfg. of video display; same thing happened on the clam-shell display. Said it was the browser. It worked in Safari. Op system was geared to Safari; others, no. Now it works with the upgrade.
