Hi All,

Would you add this to the wish list: when composing a letter in text mode,
it would be really cool if I could use the smiley face pull down menu to
insert the text corresponding to the smiley face. :)

Many thanks,

sorry, this may sound a bit to rude..

I just think having any kind of images (even dynamically added) in a text-mail
would result in some users beliving there are real images..
I don't think that was quite the RFE; I think the reporter wants the text
corresponding to a smiley, not the smiley itself. Personally, I think a menu
for typing in something that simple would be useless additional UI complexity,
but I defer to the module owner, etc.
Hi,

No images! Just the text equivalent. (I can only remember the
sad and the smiley faces.)

Many thanks,
--Tony
Confirming rfe....This could be somewhat useful at times (and is definitely
something the module owner should make a call on)....

Hi All,

It is really easy to have the spirit or intention mis-interpreted when you
are writing an eMail. The smiley faces step into the fray to help solve
the problem of not being able to see the senders facial expressions and
not jump to improper conclusions. Problem: remembering what they when composing
a text message. I really would love to see this functionality added. :) (I
think there is a super happy face, but ...)

Err, that should have been "remembering what they 'are' when composing" :-[

I suggest adding "Emoticon" to the summary so people have at least an outside
chance of finding this bug when doing a search for it. Nobody is going to
search for "smiley face" - particularly since that is just one of the many
emoticons.

Summary: Smiley face pull down for non-html editing → Smiley face ("emoticons") pull down for non-html editing
Yikes, I just looked at 1.4rc1's HTML compose window. Their side now has
SIXTEEN (16) pull down emoticons! A lot of cools one too! THERE IS NO
WAY I AM GOING TO REMEMBER ALL OF THEM! (I am up to four now.) Can we
please get the text side implemented as well?

Many thanks,

Summary: Smiley face ("emoticons") pull down for non-html editing → Smiley face [emoticon] pull down for non-html [text] editing
The big UI issue I see is that when going from HTML -> Plain text, that menu bar
of formatting options goes away (obviously).

Keeping the bar for one pull down menu seems rather rediculus. so I see 2 options:

1. Plain text formatting:
- Bold = *text*
- Underline = __text__
- Smilies (:-) ;-))

2. Just put smilies in the insert menu.

#1 would be a whole other RFE, but would include this withing. 2 would be
slimmer, but harder to reach.

I'm not sure I could do this, but I will look into it a bit, may be a bit
advanced for my understanding of the code right now.

I would really love it if you implemented this in the current Thunderbird!
