The left side of the Profile Manager has options to:
- Create Profile
- Rename Profile
- Delete Profile
but no option to Load Profile from a folder that is not the default location for profile folders/listed in profiles.ini (or otherwise does not appear in the list to the right). I would like to add a button to do that. It might be called "Link Profile" if "Open" or "Load" seem too confusing even in context (though either of those two seem fine). On clicking the new button, the user would see a file browser and browse to the profile folder location. Clicking to select a profile folder and entering that selection, profiles.ini should be modified to include that profile at its location.
This could be very useful, for example, when opening a profile stored on an external data storage drive only occasionally for old reference etc.
Cross-reference: This is different from Bug 1226099 - Allow to open profile folder from within profile manager - because that bug seeks to allow the user to use the system's Explorer/Finder application to view a directory storing a listed profile. The present bug is basically the opposite: the user can see the profile folder in a system explorer and wants to open it in the application.

Here's a reason why I stopped using Thunderbird: when bugs are reported, the response is dismissive and they sit open for several years, then get closed apparently without anybody even considering that maybe it'd be worth trying to fix.
