I have configured mouse wheel to zoom the page when Ctrl is pressed. When I move the wheel, text like "Zoom: 120%" should appear on the statusbar for a while (1-5 seconds). (Sorry if I chose wrong component for this.)
If the status bar shows zoom right after you zoom using the mouse wheel, it should also show the zoom right after you hit Ctrl++ (but not right after you use the menu item). See also bug 110244, "Indication of font size (zoom) would be nice".
