Details

Leaving the platform unspecified because I haven't tested this on Windows/Linux yet. This is a really annoying bug for me. I'd be happy to work on it if someone can tell me where to look to fix it. Bug 1379213 seems to involve code that might be related, but I couldn't figure out what might be going on with the file extension from looking at the code that Neil linked in the first comment on that bug. I've seen some other similar looking bugs filed but not this specific one, so I thought I'd file it, but somehow I suspect it might be a dupe.
