I go to the "kuma" github repo a lot during my day. I have it bookmarked. And I have the keyword "kuma" associated with the bookmark. Usually typing "kuma" into the address bar pops a link to kuma as the first result. Then it usually pops 5 other useful pages that let me do things like go directly to the pull request page, or read the docs for the kuma repo. Today I am getting 5 other results before the one I want: github.com kumail nanjiani kumail nanjiani emily gordon kumar sanu songs kumar sanu These are maybe search suggestions? Can I disable them?

We are reverting the change in bug 1406234, so it will be back where it was. For future reference, you can disable search suggestions in the urlbar from Preferences/Search, you can also tweak the mixture of results from about:config using browser.urlbar.matchBuckets

Cool, thank you. Reading the history on the other bug I don't see any references to user testing. Maybe the classification of search heavy vs awesome bar heavy users is based on that? I'm sorry if I've jumped to the wrong conclusion. Contrary to the assumptions on that thread I would consider myself a heavy awesome bar user but I removed the search bar from Firefox about 3 years ago. If search suggestions are relevant 40% of the time they are a distraction rather than a help. (But then I am a fast typist so it's faster to finish my thought than pause and see if Google has correctly finished it for me). Thanks again for the configuration tips. My searches only turned up instructions for configuring it in Firefox 3 >_<

(In reply to Stephanie Hobson [:shobson] from comment #2) > Cool, thank you. > > Reading the history on the other bug I don't see any references to user > testing. We did various (5 or 6? don't recall) live experiments through Shield, and some User studies, in the last year. It's a complicate matter that product managers are taking quite seriously. The Nightly change was maybe a little bit rushed, but it demonstrated useful to find some important bugs and confirm some of the expected workflows. Thank you for the feedback!
