User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64) AppleWebKit/605.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/11.0 Safari/605.1 Epiphany/3.26.2 Steps to reproduce: - Build firefox 53.0.3 or 52.0.2; - Start firefox. Actual results: The firefox window is not rendered properly. See attached screenshot. There are missing icons (on the top right part of the window), however after moving the mouse over the missing icons, the icons are rendered properly. It is impossible to use firefox. Expected results: The firefox window should be rendered properly.
Similarly to icons, sometimes parts of the currently loaded web page are rendered only after passing over them with the mouse pointer...
The problem must be related to rebuilding after some recent library update (Gtk?).
Please make sure you have the latest graphics driver: https://support.mozilla.org/kb/upgrade-graphics-drivers-use-hardware-acceleration
OS: Unspecified → Linux
I have the latest graphic drivers installed. That's probably the point, because it was working properly with previous library releases... Also, I have tried disabling webgl and the graphic hardware acceleration as suggested in the above mentioned web page, but nothing changes: it does not render properly !

1) What linux environment is this on? 2) could you please try a newer release to see if it's addressed? 56 is our current release version for users.

I am sorry but I cannot test more recent firefox releases because they depend on rust which I do not want to install (as it requires external binary code and cannot be built entirely from source code).
Pretty sure you can build rust from source, no?
No the rust compiler is dodgy, during bootstrap it tries to download binary stuff from the network: ./x.py build curl: (6) Couldn't resolve host 'static.rust-lang.org' spurious failure, trying again
Why do you think its downloading binary code?
I think it's downloading a pre-built compiler for the first stage. I do not agree that the rust compiler downloads stuff from the network. That's why I decided not to use firefox releases after 53.0.3. Can we please get back on theme (this bug) ?
Well if you aren't going to use a newer firefox there is no point fixing this bug.
(In reply to Guido Trentalancia from comment #10) > I think it's downloading a pre-built compiler for the first stage. I do not > agree that the rust compiler downloads stuff from the network. ./mach bootstrap will download a prebuilt compiler, but you can also build your own compiler. Its all open source so you can see what its downloading.
There is no relation between fixing this bug and the need to use a newer firefox: I think this bug should be fixed so that this release and the previous ones can work fine. Many other people are also avoiding to use newer firefox for the same reason, so it's good if this bug is fixed because it extends the life of this version.
Very very unlikely we will fix anything older than 56 at this point.
Maybe it's time to move to another browser...
