Until last year, we could use various VPN end points across the Mozilla offices: Paris, London, SF, MV etc...
This was great for several reasons, the main one was that it allowed to easily circumvent geolocations in order to diagnose and debug various web sites (in particular media ones) restricted to those countries.
This reason is still why it would be good to have those.
But there's a new use case at present: the use of the locals icecream servers for remotees.
For myself, I have a gigabit fibre connection, having the possibility to use the Paris' servers to speed up my workflow would be good.
And I'm sure that there are a lot of remotees that could benefit for such use.
Using a commercial VPN allows to get around for problem #1, it can't help for problem #2...
Need local POPs again.

Peter, to me, this bug is a dup of bug 1204487, no?

I would think so but it's not my bug nor in any of my components so I'm not the one to make that decision.
