Can't collapse bookmarks menu on the personal toolbar

Can't collapse bookmarks menu on the personal toolbar
if you open it by dragging the icon in the URL bar
to the personal toolbar folder.
The expanded bookmarks menu looks like system-modal. you can't do
anything after opening the menu.
here is how i terminate mozilla in these cases:
hit ctrl+alt+F2
log in to the console and "killall mozilla-bin"
then "exit" from the console
and hit ctrl+alt+F7 to get back to X
