New bio: Chris Beard has been CEO of the Mozilla Corporation and a member of its Board of Directors since 2014. As CEO, his focus has been on returning the organization to its roots and putting people at the center of everything Mozilla does. In particular, he is focused on ensuring Mozilla and its flagship product, Firefox, remain a beacon of freedom as people’s lives become increasingly intertwined with the Internet across desktop, mobile and new domains. A lifelong learner, Chris has been a passionate advocate for Open Source his entire career. He has led engineering, product and marketing teams to collaborate on Open Source projects for more than 20 years. At Mozilla, Chris has led marketing and product management teams to build the Mozilla and Firefox brands, grow the community, and launch core products to hundreds of millions of users globally. As the company’s first Chief Innovation Officer, he led Mozilla Labs to develop new technology that formed the foundation for Mozilla’s mobile, social and identity products. In 2013, he joined Greylock Partners as an Executive-in-Residence and then returned to Mozilla as CEO in 2014. Prior to Mozilla, Chris held marketing and product roles at Cluster File Systems (acquired by Sun), Hewlett-Packard Company and Linuxcare. He was also co-founder and CEO of The Puffin Group (acquired by Linuxcare), an early Open Source technology startup that was focused on Linux kernel and device driver development. Chris studied economics and biochemistry at the University of Ottawa and received his MBA in International Business from the University of Edinburgh, where he was also awarded the John McFarlane Prize for Leadership. He is a member of the national board of directors of Make-A-Wish. Born in Canada, Chris now calls the San Francisco Bay Area home with his wife and their two children.
