User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0 Build ID: 20171115095343 Steps to reproduce: When I scroll on any website, I can hear the sound so called 'mouse wheel'. I've used Firefox 57 on both Ubuntu 14.04.5 and 16.04 and this issue only occurs on Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS. Expected results: I wasn't expecting to hear this sound.
I tried to use mozregression, and I was able to figure this: ``` 11:14.53 INFO: Narrowed inbound regression window from [5a63d845, 3d72fdb0] (4 builds) to [5a63d845, 14db7c0b] (2 builds) (~1 steps left) 11:14.53 INFO: No more inbound revisions, bisection finished. 11:14.53 INFO: Last good revision: 5a63d8457a2a69a2ad54a50765bff412580df2a4 11:14.53 INFO: First bad revision: 14db7c0bcf9ae86c9ec2cc9d3c249a42e459a2a9 11:14.53 INFO: Pushlog: https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/pushloghtml?fromchange=5a63d8457a2a69a2ad54a50765bff412580df2a4&tochange=14db7c0bcf9ae86c9ec2cc9d3c249a42e459a2a9 ``` So probably one of these commits could be the issue https://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/pushloghtml?fromchange=5a63d8457a2a69a2ad54a50765bff412580df2a4&tochange=14db7c0bcf9ae86c9ec2cc9d3c249a42e459a2a9

Hey tracy, can you get this 14.04 version of Unbuntu set up and see if you can reproduce.
Flags: needinfo?(twalker)
I cannot reproduce this on Firefox57.0.1, Build 20171128222554 on Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS as a VM I have never "heard" mouse scroll other than directly from the physical mouse. I also don't see a setting in the OS that might control such a feature, if it even exists. Curious though, what sort of sound are you hearing. Gaurav, can you record and post it here?

It sounds like a gear. I am now on Firefox 57.0.1 (when I posted I was on Firefox 57), but the problem persists. I am not sure which software I should use to record that sound, since I hear that noise clearly only when I have my headphones on (my laptop's sound system isn't good). Keep in mind that I didn't had this problem with earlier versions of Firefox. If you do know of a software for ubuntu that I could use to record, then let me know (otherwise I'll have to search over the web and spend sometime which I am not sure if I am willing to devote time fiddling with things).

No worries, if you don't have some way of recording the sound. I have Googled a bit on this and found that some other users have, in the past, had issues where a sound was associated with the mousewheel. However, it wasn't Firefox specific, rather some sort of sound card glitch.

However, > it wasn't Firefox specific, rather some sort of sound card glitch. I have just liked to re-iterate, that I didn't had this issue with other versions of FireFox. Though I totally understand that some changes in the current version of Firefox (compared to the earlier ones) might have brought in changes because of which "sound card glitch" can be there. Thanks messages (possibly a spam) --------------------------------- BTW, I just wanted to thank you, mozilla people and volunteers who have done an really good job on this version of Firefox. I have been on FF since 1 year (though it was slow compared to Chrome) I love your boosting towards open internet and that made me stick. Now, I am have one more good reason to be with FF, and that is speed.
