We have two legacy, one-off mobile download pages:

- https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/mobile-download/desktop/

Can we remove these pages, or are they still in use?
:cmore & :adavis -

I believe these pages originally came from your end - can you weigh in here?

Thanks!

According to GA, these pages are getting about 30-50 page views per day. I see a big spike of traffic to these pages in August and September. It doesn't look like they are used on a regular basis.

Given that Mike Han is gone, we should ask Devyani Gupta if she knows if these pages still have have use into the future. Generally, it is nice to have a single web page that has a mobile download button on it, but I believe we can just use the Adjust SDK links to redirect users to the appropriate stores without having to have a landing page. Let's needinfo Devyani Gupta.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Mike Han use those to drive mobile downloads after an update? Sorta like a "what's new" page that automatically opens. Make sure there's no plan to use them again.

As per the second one specifically, we've discussed with Michele Warther about taking over the SMS part since FxA supports most of Europe, knows if you are already running mobile and we can pass some of your credentials through a deeplink into the mobile app.

I suppose FxA could just host that page ourselves if we move forward with a test in 2018. In any case, almost everything in the link you shared would need to be redone (design, SMS form, etc). So, if it is no longer in use, you can probably take it down.

Where are these pages getting traffic from - emails, paid meida etc? Mike never mentioned the first page to me but it needs updating for sure. The second page looks like its from the FXA flow when users can send themselves an SMS to download the mobile app.

I talked to Cherry and we need to understand the traffic source first, @cmore do you mind sharing the GA report?

I just went into GA's standard reports for www.mozilla.org (production) and typed in mobile-download. You could then add a secondary dimension of medium or sources to get that information.

Here's a link:

It looks like it is desktop snippets that are driving traffic to the page or at least were before.

Looks like currently, it is just direct traffic which doesn't help much at all.

Chris,

Thanks, I'll take a look at this. I'm deep in budget planning mode working towards a key deliverable on Wednesday EOD, since this is a short week, I'll come back to you early next week with a recommendation.

As of now, since I'm taking over a lot of things from Mike and I don't have background on everything, I'm hesitant to remove pages without careful analysis of traffic sources and conversion.

Thanks,
Devyani
There's no rush on a decision from the mozilla.org end. We should make a decision relatively soon, but no reason to press. Next week-ish is totally fine.
Thanks.
Any conclusion to the question of removing these pages?

Discussed it with the broader team and we are good to remove them. Thanks.
