User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0
Build ID: 20171112125346
Summary: Increase the width if bookmark toolbar and put 2 rows of bookmarks in bookmark toolbar → Increase the width of bookmark toolbar and put 2 rows of bookmarks in bookmark toolbar
Severity: normal → enhancement
Component: Untriaged → Bookmarks & History
The width of the toolbar is already the width of the window, so I don't think that can be expanded further.

The only thing here appears to be multiple rows, I'm not sure if that's something we'd allow in standard Firefox.

All when all bookmark folders are in the toolbar it's ugly to use drop down button and short form of bookmark names

Note that while P5 means we'd accept a patch from the community, in this case the proposal still needs to go through UX before anything is accepted.
I'm personally not very prone to multi-row toolbars, but it's clear there is a bookmarks retrieval problem, that could even have better solutions than this legacy multi-row approach. Better search, better tagging support and completely different UIs are all possibilities.

Scroll/slider may be added

I more thing could be done,to remove the icon(used to indicated it's a bookmark FOLDER) and use darker rectangular boxes with curved edges in background of the folder to indicate the same.

But this will disturb this bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1420091
Please don't use all capitals, that's attempting to force your point and is against the etiquette, I suggest you read up before posting again: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=etiquette.html

We realise that you have strong feelings about this, however we aren't seeing a demand for this feature, and most of our users would like more vertical space available for web pages, rather than increasing sizes of toolbars. Unfortunately we can't support every option possible.

Have you also considered trying an alternative method, like searching for bookmarks within the url bar? or arranging bookmarks differently? I understand that it doesn't suit everyone, but sometimes we find giving different things a try for a week or two sometimes helps. If it doesn't, that's fair enough, but at least it has been tried.
A multi-row bookmarks toolbar, with or without scrolling, can be "easily" achieved via userChrome.css, see https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx/blob/master/classic/css/toolbars/bookmarks_toolbar_multiple_lines.css

This is basically what the MultiRowBookmarks" and the "RoomyBookmarks" extensions were doing before FF57.

However, unlike previous versions, FF57 seems to have a limit for the number of items shown in the bookmarks toolbar, which makes this solution still not perfect, see https://github.com/Aris-t2/CustomCSSforFx/issues/99

Should I report this as a new bug?

I have a strong suspicion that preference for search vs. choosing from a menu is linked to the dominant perception modality of the user. An auditory learner will prefer search. A visual learner will choose by the favicons. A kinesthetic will choose by location in the menu.

That explains the ALL CAPS: you’re asking the user to convert to a different modality. Of course he/she will not want to do that.

> or arranging bookmarks differently?

That should work, after a painful transition period. (Might involve increasing the nesting depth to fit the physical limitations and re-training to memorize the new locations of everything.)
Alternate solution to the problem:
1. Scroll bar
2. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1420089#c6
3. Add option to customize the number of bookmark toolbar rows.

Please don't needinfo us unless you're actually asking a question. Leaving a comment like that is fine. This bug isn't a priority as has already been stated higher above.
