User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:58.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/58.0 Build ID: 20171204150510 Steps to reproduce: Full screen 1080p60 YouTube can often drop to and stay at around 30fps until paused and resumed again. Seems to only happen while in full screen video and when both monitors are hooked up (duplicated mode). One interesting thing is that the YouTube player stats report no dropped frames, but you can see the drop from 60 to 30 when using an overlay. (Rivatuner/FRAPS) I've briefly tested on the latest nightly release and the issue seemed to be fixed or at least less occurring. Video Card: GTX 1060 Video Driver:388.43 Other reports: https://goo.gl/5iXG9N Might be related to: https://goo.gl/kbxad5 Actual results: Full screen 1080p60 video often drops to and stays at 30 fps until paused and resumed. * When using a dual monitor setup. Expected results: 1080p60 video should play flawlessly.

My guess is that the duplicated mode is doubling the memory bandwidth required to drive the screen. You'd hope that this wouldn't be necessary but the symptoms indicate it is happening. What screen resolutions are you using? > One interesting thing is that the YouTube player stats report no dropped > frames, but you can see the drop from 60 to 30 when using an overlay. > (Rivatuner/FRAPS) That is a known bug where Firefox doesn't report frames that are dropped into the compositor. > I've briefly tested on the latest nightly release and the issue seemed to be > fixed or at least less occurring. If you can reproduce it reliably then you can figure out where it was fixed using mozregression. Any change in either Firefox or Windows that improves GPU load could tip the scales in favour of working. > Might be related to: https://goo.gl/kbxad5 Bug 1422758 is not related and in fact is not really a bug at all. The design decision is to use full dynamic range across the board, rather than the driver defaults which vary between GPU manufacturers. Can you please provide the graphics section of about:support?
(In reply to Anthony Jones (:kentuckyfriedtakahe, :k17e) from comment #1) > What screen resolutions are you using? Both screens are 1920x1080 @60hz, sometimes they are run with different color depths depending on what I'm using them for. > Can you please provide the graphics section of about:support? Sure. Are you able to see this problem on Chrome?
(In reply to Blake Wu [:bwu][:blakewu](OoO until 12/6) from comment #3) > Are you able to see this problem on Chrome? Not the exact same issue, this drop to ~30 fps until paused and resumed is very unique to FF.
Performance degrades overtime when playing high framerate video, this can be easily seen in the performance tab, after 15min average fps is at 37. Happens on Youtube and on Twitch so not actually VP9 related.
(In reply to Blake Wu [:bwu][:blakewu] from comment #3) > Are you able to see this problem on Chrome? Benchmark showing the behavior, jump back to 60 fps only happened because I intetionally paused and resumed the video. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lfXwpZqTFibX5Pj8dRmmYu0gWyNSNKNg/view?usp=sharing
The brute force fix for this is to set the firefox nvidia power manegement to 'Prefer maximum performance'. On desktop there should no real drawbacks to doing that.
Dan, here's another compositor performance issue. If we're not reporting dropped frames to the YouTube player it's not a decoding performance problem.
