User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:58.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/58.0 Build ID: 20171114093635 Steps to reproduce: When downloading an ICS (to import into Thunderbird) if I choose to open it with Thunderbird it adds it ICS as an attachment. Expected results: In my mind, it makes sense that it would open the ICS as a file to be imported into one of my calendars, if I wanted to attach the ICS file I would add it as an attachment. I doubt I'm alone on this, is there any serious technical or logical argument for why this shouldn't be the default behavior?
Please report Calendar bugs in the Calendar component. In general, you import ICS files you have downloaded: Events and Tasks > Import. There is a long hot discussion in bug 357480 about handling ICS files in general, especially when opening them when they are already an attachment. If this behaviour changed, then your bug here would be fixed, too. The reason it hasn't been fixed is simple lack of resources (to the point that Philipp restricted access to the other bug to suppress any further complaints).

Gotcha, thank you for pointing me at the right bug!
Well, your bug is slightly different, and "difficult" reporters would argue to reopen it. However, your case is covered by "import" and it may be improved when the bug gets fixed. So I suggest you watch bug 357480. It's much more severe that you can't double-click an ICS attachment and have it imported, especially given that currently only one ICS is recognised (bug 547754). Users receiving multiple ICS attachments need to export them to disk and then import them individually. Not nice.
