Turn on transparancy features in a program such as Trillian or Altdesk. Then
view a page that uses constant refreshing through javascript. Such a page that
does this is:
http://code.box.sk
The programs that use the transparancy features will flicker in time with the
refreshing of the javascript.
Temporary solution is to turn off the transparancy features.
Build version: 2002050108
Reassigning to Browser-General until we can get further info.
Compare bug 131356 "gif transparency flashes black",
bug 125581 PNG Transparency is messed up"
bug 125629 "PNG with alpha transparency used as background
                    are incorrectly displayed"

Jason: can you explain more?

1. What makes you say there is "refresh through JavaScript"
at the site http://code.box.sk? Where is this being done?
2. Do you see any heavy CPU or memory usage when the flickering happens?
3. What build ID of Mozilla are you using? Pls include this in every report.
4. How does the performance of IE6 compare (if you have that available)?

That will help us develop a reduced testcase; thanks -

Summary: Refresh through javascript causes flickering of certain programs. → Refresh through JavaScript causes flickering of certain programs
Oops, sorry, missed your build ID: 2002050108. Thanks -
I suspect this has to do with us repainting all the time as the javascript
refresh occurs (which makes perfect sense....)
1. It seems that any time that the java script calls to refresh the data on the
screen it causes the transparent programs to refresh as well. I'm looking to
find what piece of code could cause this to refresh.
2. CPU and Memory utilization seem to be normal.
3. comment #1
4. Tried with the latest patch of IE6. Works fine without any signs of this bug.
<spidey@oldskool.com>: Does the problem still occur with Mozilla 1.1? If not,
please resolve this bug INVALID.

I think I understand the problem... and it probably doesn't have anything to do
with images in mozilla. Does scrolling the page up and down also cause the
problem? It may have to do with how GFX does bitblits during rendering.
