Description

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0
Build ID: 20171206182557

Steps to reproduce:

Open tabs to multiple sites, including:
1) https://medium.com/the-mission/self-made-billionaire-there-are-three-levels-of-reality-and-most-people-are-stuck-in-level-one-ad5a1bf5ad76
2) https://medium.com/the-mission/how-to-tell-if-someone-is-truly-smart-or-just-average-a2f0bcac5db2
3) https://www.google.com/search?q=Tokyo+Build+2004&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b
4) https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#inbox
5) https://bitinfocharts.com/
6) https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/enter_bug.cgi#h=bugForm%7CFirefox

Memory used is about: 600-700MB according to Windows Task Manager.

Close sites open in steps 3, 4, 5, 6

Memory used is now about: 525-531MB.

If you restart Firefox, with just the tabs opened with the sites in Steps 1 and 2, the amount of memory used is less than 525MB! (Around 300MB)

Actual results:

After closing tabs, Firefox is not reclaiming memory.

Expected results:

After closing tabs, Firefox should reclaim memory.

Whiteboard: [MemShrink]
Tested on Build ID 20171206182557 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:57.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/57.0 and after numerous tries, could not reproduce the issue. After closing sites opened in steps 3,4,5,6 one by one, the amount of memory used by FF decreases as expected.
Chua Chee Wee if you still have the issue please create a new profile, you have the steps here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles?redirectlocale=en-US&redirectslug=Managing-profiles#w_starting-the-profile-manager
Please test if the issue can be reproduced in the safe mode of Firefox: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode

Reproduced with "Restart with Addons disabled".

A little bit harder to judge with a new profile, since with a new profile, there's 5 Firefox processes, while with "Restart with Addons disabled", and my default profile, there's only 1 Firefox process.

Is there a way I can show about:config with only changed settings instead of all settings?
