60.0a1 (2018-01-22) (64-bit) Mac OS X This is likely a bug in Firefox, not WebExtensions, now that I'm thinking more about it... The problem is that when selecting a tab that's been suspended using tabs.discard(), the URL bar is briefly blank, before filling in with the URL. This is quite visually jarring. Easy example is using Dormancy, and add-on I wrote that suspends tabs after a set amount of time: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/dormancy/
Yep, I restarted Firefox, and see the same behavior when selecting suspended tabs in a restored session. Switching product/component.
Component: WebExtensions: General → Session Restore
Product: Toolkit → Firefox
Version: unspecified → Trunk
Summary: tabs.discard() results in glitchy UI when tab next gets loaded → unsuspending tabs results in glitchy UI when tab next gets loaded
So this sounds like a more general bug regarding lazy browser loading. A short screencast that demonstrates the issue (the glitch you're talking about) would be very useful! :-)
Component: Session Restore → Tabbed Browser
Priority: -- → P3
So some months have passed, and I think the behavior I'm seeing that feels glitchy is: 1. See an unrestored tab, has the correct favicon and title 2. Select it 3. The tab title goes blank (<-- THE GLITCHY PART) 4. The tab title fills back in as the page is loading IIRC favicon is cleared and reloaded as well. Sadly... I don't see this *all* the time, only sometimes.
Summary: unsuspending tabs results in glitchy UI when tab next gets loaded → unsuspending tabs clear their title briefly, resulting in glitchy experience
Severity: normal → S3
