From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.0rc1) Gecko/20020417
BuildID: 2002041711
I have three email accounts and two news servers. If a folder is elected and I
attempt to select the trash folder for the third account, Mozilla hangs and does
not select or display the folder. I can click on another folder, but cannot do
anything else in Mozilla. Mozilla windows do not even redraw. If no folder is
select (ie. focus is on the bold account name line) then the trash folder can be
selected successfully.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open mail window with three email accounts expanded.
2. Select inbox folder for first account.
3. Click on trash folder for third account.
Actual Results: Mozilla hangs.
Expected Results: Highlight should move to trash folder and contents should be
listed.
I have the display with the folder pane at the full height of the window and
Mozilla maximised. If Mozilla is not maximised the folder can be selected, but
I still get some hangs when trying to go to a different window.

I did some more playing with this and got it to happen with other folders by
changing the number of messages in the folders. Then I got distracted by the
bug where the message list pane scroll bar is outlined but the scrollbar itself
doesn't appear. Now I can't reproduce either problem, I think because I resized
the message list pane. Possibly the hang is related to the scrollbar problem.

Yet more information on this hang. I can cause it by the following steps:
1. Open full headers on emails.
2. Get a list of messages in a folder covering about three quarters of the
screen (see hung attachment).
3. Adjust so that there is no scrollbar in the message list pane.
3. Find a message with a large header so that selecting that message forces the
message list pane to shrink and the scrollbar to appear. It may help to have a
very wide line in the header (see OK attachment).
4. Mozilla hangs, but a different message can still be selected. Once a
different message is selected, the scrollbar draws for a second, then the next
message is displayed and the scrollbar disappears again.
Notice in the hung attachment that the window as captured shows areas that do
not redraw due to the hang. Sometimes it takes a bit of fiddling to get things
arranged right to cause the hang.
There are other issues related to message headers, resizing the panes, not being
able to resize the panes, etc, but they all seem to be more or less the same thing.

I don't think this occurs any more in the 1.1 releases, but I don't know what
the resolution should be. Little help?
There are still problems in this area, but I think they are covered by existing
bugs.
