Steps to reproduce:

I'm using a mid-2013 Macbook Pro running High Sierra 10.13.2 and Thunderbird 58.0b3 (64-bit). I was using the most recent non-beta version, though recently switched to beta to try to fix the issue I've been having.

When typing in the message composition window, I'll select text using keyboard shortcuts (command + arrow key, alt/option + arrow key).


Actual results:

There is always a several second lag time and the Mac pinwheel pops up. Using these shortcuts in any other program works fine.


Expected results:

The test should be selected instantly, rather than lagging for several seconds, and without the pinwheel.

Sorry this is m first bug report so I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean make a whole new bug report, but using Firefox? If so, for what purpose?

Thunderbird uses Mozilla core software just as Firefox does. The Mozilla core and Firefox teams as large compared to the tiny TB team. So if the problem can be reproduced in Firefox at any site or perhaps the one I gave, I will move the bug to the FF queue.

So just see whether this can be reproduced in Firefox and I'll do the rest.

Thanks for clarifying. I can't reproduce it using the link you provided (i.e., everything works as it should). I'm not sure if this is helpful, but I just had the battery replaced in my Macbook air and the issue started very soon after that. It's odd that it's only with Thunderbird though.

Thanks for posting the above list. I think the issue was with High Sierra. I updated from 10.13.2 to 10.13.3 and now the issue is gone.

Similar to bug 1403460, but the bugs duped to that were based on earlier sierras and fixed by updating to 10.13.1 or 10.13.2, which is what your bug is based on.
